Shailene (Shai) Woodley was born on the 15th November 1991 in Simi Valley, California. At the age of five her mother asked her if she'd like to be an actress and Shai decided to give it a go. She has been seen on various television comercials since then and made her first debut film performance in 1999 on the television movie "Replacing Dad". From there she has had recurring roles in television shows such as "The District", "Crossing Jordan", "Jack and Bobby" and of course playing Mischa Barton's younger sister Kaitlin Cooper in Fox's hit television show "The OC". Shailene starred opposite Oscar nominee Ann-Margret in 2004's "A Place Called Home", a movie made for Hallmark channel which earned her a Young Artist Award nomination. Shailene's breakthrough role was in 2005 starring in "Felicity: An American Girl Adventure" where she was cast as the lead role. Shai stole the hearts of many young girls in her gripping performance as "Felicity Merriman" alongside Oscar winner Marcia Gay Harden, John Schneider and Kevin Zegers. In November 2005 Shailene finished filming "Searching for Mickey Fish" which was later re-named "Big Deal" and finally to "Moola" in Provo, Utah. The film debuted at the Newport Beach Film Festival in 2007.

From there Shailene continued to book and book more roles and was seen on Hallmarks mini-series "Final Approach" opposite Dean Cain which was released in 2008. Shailene often booked roles in top US television series and between 2005 and 2007 had been seen on 'My Name is Earl', 'Close to Home', 'CSI: NY' and 'Cold Case'.

After a few quiet months Shailene booked the lead role in an untitled ABC family series in February 2008 later to be named The Secret Life of the American Teenager. The show was an instant hit and Shailene's stardom soon rose to the top portraying the preganant teenager Amy Juergans, a 15 year old who discovers she is pregnant and explores the effects of her pregnancy on her family and friends as well as life at Ulysses S. Grant High School in California. The series debuted on July 1, 2008, with the second half of the first season premiering on January 5, 2009. The second season debuted on June 22, 2009. The show won Choice Summer TV Show at the 2008 Teen Choice Awards.

Great excitement hit the Woodley household in January 2010 when they learned that Shai had booked the lead role of Alexandra in the feature film The Descendants. The film is the story of a land baron who tries to re-connect with his two daughters after his wife suffers a boating accident. It is based upon the book with the same title written by Kaui Hart Hemmings. Shai filmed for four months in Hawaii alongside co-star Geaorge Clooney. The movie was released December 2012 and earned Shailene numerous awards and nominations.

Shailene considers acting a hobby and tries to maintain a normal life. She has attended public school all her life. She is very adventurous and even though she is only 20 she has already been skydiving, bungee jumping, stunt flying and parasailing. She has a very loving personality and is a very outgoing person. In her spare time Shailene likes sewing, learning guitar and designing. She is also a huge environmentalist. She strongly promotes recycling and even keeps a recycling bin in her trailer when on set.
